Thirsk trainer David Nicholls saddled his third sprint winner of the week at Glorious Goodwood, and by far the most important, when Tayseer came from way off the pace to snatch the Stg£85,000 Vodafone Stewards` Cup.
Tayseer (13-2), one of six horses saddled by Nicholls in the 30-runner six-furlong handicap, swept to the front on the far side in the last 100 yards to beat Bon Ami (40-1) by one and a half lengths.
Cubism (33-1), who led the group that raced on the stands` side home, was a similar distance away third. Royal Result, a stablemate of the winner, was fourth at 10-1.
It was a fine training performance by Nicholls, who won the race as a jockey on Soba in 1982, as Tayseer had won the Bunbury Cup over seven furlongs at Newmarket last month.
Richard Hughes, successful on Harmonic Way 12 months ago, bided his time on Tayseer as the stands` side group, headed by Repertory, had the call in the first half of the race.
But the situation changed dramatically in the final quarter-mile with Bon Ami driving to the front under 5lb claimer Paul Bradley before Hughes unleashed Tayseer with a late thrust to land the spoils.
Blue Mountain, who was sent off the 5-1 favourite having being backed from 8-1 to displace Tayseer, was never seen with a chance.
